Flossing is the most important thing that you can do to ensure good oral health next to brushing. The purpose of good oral care that includes brushing and flossing is to reduce the harmful bacteria that cause swollen gums and gum diseases. Bacteria feeds on food particles left on the teeth and the gumline. When flossing is not included in your daily oral hygiene regimen, plaque that is formed in between your teeth and gumline can harden into tartar. Unlike with plaque, tartar cannot be easily removed through brushing and flossing alone it may take a dental professional to remove it.
