I remember browsing in the open stacks at the University of Illinois Library in Urbana about 40 years ago, and looking at some sort of hobby magazine or newspaper from the early part of this century. A person was inquiring whether to “invest” in postage stamps. The columnist opined that revenue stamps had been collected long before postage stamps had even been issued in most countries, and that a sensible person would turn his collecting interests to revenues (canada postage stamp collecting being merely a temporary fad).
